USSD.

Unlike an SMS, Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) is usually a sporadic service meant for real-time digital conversations. It’s powerful, not just because of the immediate solutions it can lend, but because of its reach and possible market penetration.

Here’s how it works

Simply put, USSD technology lets businesses and customers converse in real-time.
A selection is made from a menu, and the application responds with the relevant information, and so on, as a conversation.
  • Using any phone, a user dials the USSD number

  • Cellphone tower communicates with GSM network

  • GSM Network routes the communication to our USSD gateway

  • Our USSD gateway accepts, processes and responds to the user request

Dedicated USSD

This is a three digit code for example *483# that is used solely by one user for their company or service

Shared USSD

This is a code that is used by multiple companies or services. Each company is allocated a channel on our dedicated codes, for example *483*X#

Characteristics of USSD

We’ve all used a USSD protocol – it’s the functionality we interact with to get airtime and data balance enquiries from mobile service providers, as well as one-time passwords, pin codes and more.
